Update as reported in The Spokesman Review by Adam Shanks

The City of Spokane applied for and received a Washington Wildlife and Recreation grant to renovate the Don Kardong Pedestrian Bridge on the Spokane River Centennial Trail. The City will install bridge decking and framing, lighting, guardrails, and possibly scenic overlooks. The project remedies safety hazards, improves user experience, and extends the life of this critical trail link for another 40 years. The City of Spokane will contribute $726,000 in a cash match. The University District Public Development Authority board approved up to $70K for two overlooks. Designs under consideration but not yet finalized include these.
