Women Helping Women Vivian Winston Scholarship deadline - March 18

Monday, March 18, 2019

March 1, 2019 - Spokane, Wash. -- The Vivian Winston Scholarship, proudly offered by Women Helping Women Fund (WHWF), awards funds to deserving mothers pursuing higher education in the Spokane area to assist with tuition and childcare costs. Vivian Winston, one of the late WHWF founders, worked throughout her life to remove educational barriers for women and children. “I can’t paint the beautiful pictures my friends can paint or write the wonderful stories they write, but I can make things better. That’s my creativity” (Winston). For years, Winston did just that. She was instrumental in the process to establish organizations like Planned Parenthood Spokane, the League of Women Voters, Women Helping Women Fund and more. Winston’s granddaughter, Stephanie Baumann, has clearly been inspired by her grandmothers work to better our community. Baumann has been engaged with WHWF for the past 11 years, currently serving as a WHWF Board Member and Chair of the Scholarship Committee, continuing her grandmother’s legacy. In regards to why Baumann feels such a connection to WHWF, she states, “I have a deep commitment and passion for WHWF due to my grandmother and her lifelong goal of helping others. I would like to ensure the longevity of her vision” (Baumann). Winston has created a lasting legacy that Baumann plans to uphold through her creative visions, helpful marketing strategies, and strong business acumen. Throughout Winston and Baumann’s years of hard work, our community has benefited greatly, and continues to do so, through WHWF and the Vivian Winston Scholarship.
