Please note: New date and time

Whitworth University in partnership with The Spokesman-Review is pleased to announce Bob Woodward, associate editor of The Washington Post and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, will be the featured speaker at the university’s President’s Leadership Forum, on Friday, Oct. 4, from 12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Spokane Convention Center.

Woodward has been awarded two Pulitzer Prizes. He won the first along with Washington Post reporter Carl Bernstein in 1973 for their coverage of the Watergate scandal surrounding former President Richard Nixon. He received his second Pulitzer Prize in 2003 as the lead reporter for coverage of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Woodward has authored or co-authored 19 books. Thirteen of them have been No. 1 national best-sellers. He has written books on the nine most recent presidents, from Nixon to President Donald Trump.

His latest book, Fear: Trump in the White House, sold more than 1 million copies in its first week and broke the 94-year first-week sales record of its publisher, Simon & Schuster. CBS News correspondent Bob Schieffer has said, “Woodward has established himself as the best reporter of our time. He may be the best reporter of all time.”

In 2014, Robert Gates, former director of the CIA and secretary of defense, said he wished he had recruited Woodward into the CIA, saying, “He has an extraordinary ability to get otherwise responsible adults to spill [their] guts to him... his ability to get people to talk about stuff they shouldn’t be talking about is just extraordinary and may be unique.”

Gene Roberts, the former managing editor of The New York Times, has called the Woodward-Bernstein Watergate coverage, “maybe the single greatest reporting effort of all time.” In listing the all-time 100 best nonfiction books, Time magazine has called All the President’s Men, by Bernstein and Woodward, “Perhaps the most influential piece of journalism in history.”

Whitworth’s President’s Leadership Forum draws key national leaders to the Inland Northwest to provide wisdom and insight on a variety of contemporary issues. This event costs $50 per person or $500 for a corporate table (10 seats per table). Breakfast is included. Additional sponsorship opportunities are still available. Advance online registration is required. Please click here.

Located in Spokane, Wash., Whitworth is a private liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church. The university, which has an enrollment of more than 3,000 students, offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
