UW is a top producer of Fulbright scholars and students

The University of Washington ranked among the highest in the country in producing Fulbright scholars and students, according to a list published Sunday in The Chronicle of Higher Education. The UW is among 20 institutions in the country to be named a top producer for both the Fulbright U.S. Student and U.S. Scholar programs.

The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program.

Eight scholars from the UW were awarded Fulbright grants for 2019-2020 — more than any other institution in the state and among the leading research schools in the country. Additionally 16 students were awarded Fulbright awards out of 62 applications.

Since its inception in 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided more than 390,000 participants—chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential — with the opportunity to exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns. More than 2,200 U.S. Students and 900 U.S. college and university faculty and administrators are awarded Fulbright awards annually. In addition, some 4,000 Fulbright Foreign Students and Visiting Scholars come to the United States annually to study, lecture, conduct research, or teach their native language in U.S. institutions of higher education. The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program operates in over 125 countries throughout the world.
