WSU Health Sciences Spokane College of Medicine to host virtual White Coat Ceremony - Aug. 21

Friday, August 21, 2020

Washington State University Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine is hosting its annual White Coat Ceremony on a virtual platform this year as it welcomes its newest cohort, the Class of 2024. The event will be livestreamed on the college’s YouTube channel on Friday, Aug. 21 at 6 p.m. PST.

WSU’s first-year medical students have received their clinical white coat at the Spokane-based ceremony since the college’s founding. This year, the coats and stethoscopes were mailed to students in preparation of the celebration.

Earlier on Aug. 21, medical students and their families will participate in a Drive-Thru Coating, during which each student will have their name called, walk across an outdoor stage, and be coated by an Associate Dean of Clinical Education. The Drive-Thru Coatings will be held at the WSU Health Sciences Spokane and WSU Everett campuses.

The White Coat Ceremony signifies the beginning of a student doctor’s journey as a medical professional. When the white coat is placed on their shoulders, they are committing to doing their best over the next years of training–to be the most amazing and excellent physician they can be to their future patients.
