Exploiting Opportunities to Create Disruptive Change

Join us for an engaging conversation with Lisa G. Shaffer, PhD, FACMG

Wednesday, April 6, 2022
6:00-7:00 p.m.  |  Via Zoom

Starting her career at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX as a clinical cytogeneticist, Lisa Shaffer, PhD ran a successful research program aimed at identifying the genetic basis of intellectual and developmental disabilities. During her research, she started using new microarray technologies, which formed the basis for her first company Signature Genomic Laboratories, founded in Spokane in 2003. After a successful exit from Signature Genomics in 2010, Dr. Shaffer started Genetic Veterinary Sciences, DBA Paw Print Genetics in 2012.  Paw Print Genetics was recently acquired in late 2021.  New technical innovations allowed Signature Genomics to disrupt the clinical genetics testing market and improve the detection of chromosome abnormalities in children. Likewise, scientific, business and marketing strategies at Paw Print Genetics allowed the company to enter a mature market and disrupt the way genetic testing was being offered and delivered to dog breeders.  Dr. Shaffer views obstacles and challenges as opportunities to improve the way we do business. With both companies, offering an outstanding product, providing excellent service, and listening to customers proved to be her roadmap to success.
