WSU College of Nursing ranks in top ten for NIH Funding

Washington State University’s College of Nursing is now among the top ten nursing schools nationwide for funding received from the National Institutes for Health (NIH), according to Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research, an organization that tracks and compiles NIH grant funding data across a wide range of health sciences disciplines.

Ranked ninth, WSU is situated alongside the University of Washington, ranked eighth, and Johns Hopkins University, ranked tenth. WSU has moved upward in the rankings from 19th in 2020 and 23rd in 2019.

“The improved ranking reflects our college’s commitment to conducting innovative and interdisciplinary research that advances health equity for underserved populations,” said Julie Postma, associate dean for research and professor with the College of Nursing.

NIH is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is the largest public funder of biomedical research in the world, granting over $32 billion a year to projects that improve health and save lives. Currently funded projects with the College of Nursing include research focused on suicide prevention in native communities, wildfire smoke risk reduction, and caregiving for Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome.
