WSU Health Science Checkup July

Tuesday, July 8, 2025

Dear Friends,

As the higher education and healthcare landscape around us evolves, so does Washington State University. For over 135 years, our institution has been dedicated to advancing knowledge, fostering innovation, and improving lives for the people of Washington and the world. Despite the many headwinds we currently face, health sciences researchers, educators, clinical partners, and students remain committed to our tradition of excellence while actively preparing for what lies ahead.

Our goals remain clear: to protect the core mission of WSU as an accessible and research-driven land-grant institution, to prioritize the success of our future health professionals, and to align our resources in support of long-term sustainability of the WSU Spokane campus and our three statewide health sciences colleges. Together, we are continuing to develop innovative programs and solutions that address today’s pressing health challenges and meet the needs of patients in every county.

In the coming weeks and months, President Cantwell and I will share more information about how we are continuing the strategic realignment of WSU’s financial model to ensure the longevity of WSU Health Sciences’ academic, research, and service priorities during this time of significant change. Thanks to the support and the dedication of our community, we enter the new academic year with a renewed focus on what makes WSU so special: our resilience, determination, and, above all, our commitment to serving others.
