WSU College of Medicine unveils Tamara A. Hennings Cancer Research Lab - May 15

What: The WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine is unveiling the newly named Tamara A. Hennings Cancer Research Lab, made possible by a $1 million gift from Willard and Patricia Hennings of Ritzville in loving memory of their late daughter. The donation will help support the college’s cancer research, as well as assist in the recruitment of a faculty member, potentially with expertise on the interaction of nutrition and cancer and work experience in basic sciences.
Where: Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences Building – 1st floor, 205 E. Spokane Falls Blvd., Spokane
When: 4-5 p.m., Tuesday, May 15
Details: Remarks will be made by WSU President Kirk Schulz, WSU Spokane Chancellor Daryll DeWald, Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine Founding Dean John Tomkowiak, Vice Dean of Research John Roll, and members of the Hennings family.

Background: Tamara was born July 12, 1957, in Ritzville, Wash., to Willard and Patricia Hennings. She graduated in 1975 from Ritzville High School where she participated in a range of school activities and served as ASB President her senior year. A lover of horses, she was crowned Ritzville Rodeo Queen in 1974.
Tamara attended Washington State University and later transferred to George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She completed her education at the University of Pennsylvania where she earned a Ph.D. in Urban Planning. Tamara enjoyed travel and especially loved spending time with her family and many friends around the world.
She died Feb. 3, 2012, age 54, at her home following a six-month battle with cancer.
