Catholic Charities' Beatriz and Ed Schweitzer Haven opens

Monday, December 2, 2019

Owned and operated by Catholic Charities of Eastern Washington, Beatriz and Ed Schweitzer Haven (Schweitzer Haven) will provide 50 units of permanent supportive housing for the most vulnerable in our community. This community has been intentionally designed to be a safe, healing environment for individuals who have experienced the trauma of chronic homelessness. Through providing on-site services including case management, access to primary healthcare, substance abuse/behavioral counseling, nutritious food, peer support and much more, residents are able to improve their wellness and change their lives. In addition to on-site services, Catholic Charities engages a wide network of partners to provide tailored, individual support for residents.

Project Description: New construction of a four-story building housing 51 service-enriched, low income tax credit studios and 1-bedroom dwelling units, as well as, amenity space for homeless persons. The project is located on a long-time vacant site within walking distance to transit, banks, shops, schools, and restaurants. The permitting process required Design Review approval by the City of Spokane due to the site's downtown location. The project adheres to the Evergreen Sustainable Development Standards Version 3.0.
